|
|
Hi,
I am running the precompiled kernel on my system, and it is working just fine with gentoo-kernel-bin-5.15.80, but when I try to upgrade to gentoo-kernel-bin-6.1.60 the kernel panics on boot.
copy-paste from the boot messages is not posible, but from a foto I took, I can tell that I get these error messages:
Code: | Run /init as init process
Failed to execute /init (error -2)
Run /sbin/init as init process
Run /etc/init as init process
Run /bin/init as init process
Run /bin/sh as init process
Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init= option to kernel. See Linux Documentation/admin-guide/init.rst for guidance.

I can't figure out why it can't find init - there is clearly an init in /sbin on my desk, but I expect that it isn't that init it needs; this early in the boot process I guess that it would need it in the ramdisk, which i expect will come with the package when I installed gentoo-kernel-bin-6.1.60
I my /boot I have these files:

which looks fine to me.
my emerge --info looks like this:

I would apreciate if someone could give me a hint, I could imagine that I am just overlooking something relatively simple...
Thanks in advance.

Never dealt with initrams myself - the only thing that catches my eyes really is that the 6.1.60 initramfs is quite a bit smaller in size... |

What is the intended purpose of this initramfs? How does the bootloader invoke both the good and bad kernels? |

Good point! - that was actually the hint I needed! - it turned out that I didn't notized that I ran out of space when the ramdisk was build! - after a clean-up and a reemerge of the packet everything worked fine!
Thanks! |

For a period, kernel-install didn't respect the exit code of plugins/hooks, which has now been fixed (bug 917567), so that might have been why as well. |
