I need to use lspnp and setpnp to get my built in sound card for my laptop working, but when I use lspnp I just get an error that /proc/bus/pnp doesn't exist. I have both pnp options built into the kernel, and have +pnp in my use flags.

Kernel is gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r6 -- if I need a different kernel, what kind? Is vanilla-sources ok?

This question is also in (if you'd like some context related to the sound card issues) https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=12281&highlight= but this was getting a little off topic so I thought I'd post this in a separate thread.

edit: solved this by changing to kernel 2.6 and enabling Plug and Play bios
