I’ve got an MSI X470 Gaming Plus Max motherboard with onboard Realtek ALC892 audio. When I had Windows 11 installed on this same PC, I was able to retask the rear jacks with zero issue. On Gentoo and using hdajackretask (part of alsa-tools), I've succeeded in retasking pin 0x14 as speakers (previously labelled as line out). However, regardless of whether I’ve retasked pin 0x14, retasking any of the other rear pins mutes all output on all pins. Also, regardless of whether I’ve retasked anything, plugging my tape deck into any one of the rear analog jacks just mutes my speakers, which I think might involve some sort of 7.1 surround shenanigans.
The only resource I can find mentioning my sound chip is a question on Stack Exchange whose answer suggests I do what I’ve been doing this whole time. I’m totally stumped at this point. Many thanks in advance for your advice.
