[Solved] Fresh install, no controls for sound?

Hi,

I have just installed a new Gentoo with Systemd, KDE + Plasma. Problem is, there is no sound controls... I started with the Systemd-only profile, then when it came to installing KDE/Plasma I realized I should have chosen differently, so I switched to Systemd, KDE/Plasma and did a @world update. Then installed

• emerge --ask kde-plasma/plasma-meta
  emerge --ask kde-apps/kde-apps-meta

but when finally done, no sound...

What should I check/install please? I have verified I have a sound card id at least: PCH

I don't need much from it, so something simple with a volume knob would do just fine...

Edit: turns out Pulseaudio is not installed. Hope that will fix this...

There are 3 different sound systems: ALSA (pure), Pulseaudio, Pipewire.

Which one do you want to use?

Does 'aplay -l' show your sound card?

Is kmix installed? Does it work?

Is there a preferred one in Gentoo? I believe I have used Pulseaudio before, and ALSA a verrry long time ago, so would not count on remembering any of it.

Kmix is installed, did not open when I launched it though. 'aplay' does not seem to be installed

It's a personal preference thing, but Pulseaudio works very well imo.
