At minimum, kde-plasma/kwin is not scheduled to be rebuilt for some reason.
Is it up for depclean? Were other kde-plasma packages removed prior to this without cleanup?

Please make sure there's no '.bak' files or similar in package.accept_keywords.

Also, please share the full output of emerge -pev @world --backtrack=0, emerge -p -uvDU @world --backtrack=9999, and emerge -p -uvDU @world --autounmask=n. Run them all with -p (pretend) and don't run them without that yet, this is just for diagnostic purposes.

Hi sam_,

There weren't any .bak (or otherwise named) files hanging around the portage folders.

I was finally able to solve the problem by manually uninstalling the .99-versioned kde files.

Of course, after doing so, there were warnings that some library dependencies were broken.

So I uninstalled the programs that were mentioned as needing the files, until finally, there were no warnings.

Then I attempted to perform a depclean, which of course complained that packages necessary to the worldset were missing.

So I ran the recommended emerge --update --newuse --deep --with-bdeps=y @world

Before running the above command though, I disabled all the external repos I had been using (there were quite a few) because I noticed that when I had run

emerge --regen earlier, there were lots of warnings where portage wasn't able to properly evaluate dependencies due to some of the repos giving errors.

So, getting back to what I wrote earlier, I ran the command recommended by depclean, this pulled back in almost everything I had uninstalled manually.

Only this time, the kde packages being selected were correctly up-to-date (versions 102 instead of 99).

Once that completed, I ran

emerge meta-plasma

Which also pulled back in some of the packages that were still missing.

At the end of it all, I synced portage and ran a world update, which this time ran normally, updating only the few packages that have been themselves updated in the past few days.

In other words; situation normal.

The only thing left to fix are the installed applications that were orphaned by disabling all the external repos, but these will be a case-by-case analysis and resolution and do not prevent the system from updating itself as it should.

Thanks everyone, for you insights!
