|
|
Hi, after updating to KDE 5.25. I started to notice my session hangs on random times and only fix is to kill the shell and re-start it again. I'm unsure how to solve it.
I use kernel: 6.1.1
amdgpu-pro driver: 20.40.1147286
Kde: 5.25.5

Same problem here. If the compositor is enabled, everything runs slowly. I get app (konsole/firefox/thunderbird/mpv) hangs and screen corruption which correct itself sometimes but sometimes, I have to alt+shift+F12 to disable and enable the compositor. Restarting the plasma shell also works around the issue.
It has turned into so much pain that I have disabled the compositor for good. |

I will test your method and let you know. Hopefully it works. _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value. |

I am getting KDE instabilities as well since some of recent updates. Freezes look like kwin crash - all decorations disappear, nothing can be moved, etc. I can still control/close windows if they have a menu's visible. Happened few times both on my laptop with Intel graphics and desktop with proprietary Nvidia drivers.
kwin-5.25.5, mesa-22.2.3, qt-5.15.7 |

It did not work with me , I had to bring the menu (alt + space) and `killall plasmashell and kstart plasmashell` to fix it. _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value. |

I installed media-libs/mesa-22.3.1 and now it's test time! _________________ Linux is only free if your time has no value. |

KDE Plasma does not freeze at all, so I would not consider it solved. You could try the mesa patch. |

Has someone tracked the crashes down to this patch fixing it? How do we know that's a fix for the crashes we see (without actually applying it and running it)? The change itself is not very descriptive about what conditions trigger it. |
