Hello everyone,

After happily running GNOME Wayland for a few months now, I fired up GNOME's X11 session today to troubleshoot an unrelated issue. There, I noticed something strange: All touchpad movements felt hugely more precise, direct and smooth. This was very apparent when doing quick finger movements on the touchpad, which I was able to perform on X11 with much higher precision. But the worst offender is two-finger scrolling. Under Wayland, it is virtually impossible for me to accurately scroll short distances (e.g. 1-2 lines in a document). When moving my fingers down, nothing happens at first, then the view jerks downwards in an annoying manner. Using X11, the same movements result in smooth scrolling without delay.

At the moment, I find it impossible to leave GNOME X11 again after experiencing just how much more comfortable using my touchpad can be. Is this normal or can I do something to fix my touchpad with Wayland? I am positively certain that GPU acceleration, etc... in Wayland works properly on my machine. I do not have a dedicated Xorg.conf, all configuration is done by GNOME / the X server automatically.

Thank You!

hello,

which device do you have :?:

maybe this will help:

https://gpo.zugaina.org/x11-misc/libinput-gestures
or
https://github.com/mpiannucci/gnome-shell-extended-gestures

i'am not sure if also gui-libs/wlroots is needed for gnome/wayland,

but this info is from that ebuild:

Quote:
* You must be in the input group to allow your compositor
* to access input devices via libinput.

greetings

I think I somewhat solved it now: I installed irqbalance and configured it to run on startup with the --oneshot option. (This is what several other distros, including Clear Linux, are doing by default) The system feels a lot more responsive now, and I'm like 60% sure this isn't just the placebo effect :)
