|
|
Latest x2goserver is VERY, VERY slow (almost unusable)
On a remote site I have two servers:
One - running x2goserver-4.0.1.22 ; the connection to this one is Very fast, almost as if I was directly seating if front of it.
Second server (new one) - is running x2goserver-4.1.0.3-r1 ; this connection is painfully slow. Both have same setting configuration.
The second server is (new, fast) up to date and running latest software, is there any configuration that is effecting the speed with the "Second server"? What to check?
2.) How can I downgrade "second server" to older x2goserver-4.0.1.22 |

I use x2go for all my remote desktop needs and do not experience the slowness you are seeing. I connect to both Gentoo and Debian stable systems, all running x2goserver-4.1.0.3~. At least consider that x2goserver may not be the cause.
What desktop environment(s) are you bringing up remotely? I mostly bring up LXDE or just OpenBox. One older Debian stable system runs XFCE4-4.12. Newer XFCE4 desktops do not work well under x2go _________________ Andy Figueroa

The old remote server is running: xfce4-meta-4.12-r1 and x2goserver-4.0.1.22
It has very, very fast response with x2go
The new remote server is running: xfce4-meta-4.16-r2 and x2goserver-4.1.0.3-r1
The connection is PAINFULLY SLOW. I have tired all kind of setting/connection tweaks; nothing helps.
The client I am connecting from is running: x2goclient-4.1.2.2-r1
Any suggestion what to tweak next? Does it have anything to do with qt5? |

Yes, I think it may be a qt problem, at least in part. Turning off composting will help. _________________ Andy Figueroa

Going to Applications --> Settings --> Window Manager Tweaks --> Compositor:
And turning OFF "Enable display composting" (on the remote computer)
Did not help at all; maybe a bit, but the screen redrawing is still sluggish. |

I don't run any XFCE4 versions higher than 4.12 remotely. Later versions are just a pita in a remote session. The easiest thing to do and very light is to install LXDE on those remote systems (lxde-base/lxde-meta), which you'll find fully functional in its default state. Or use a simpler window manager of your choice.
Here is my thread about going with and configuring OpenBox. https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1119739-highlight-lxde+openbox.html _________________ Andy Figueroa
