abdus,
As root, it worked. Code: | [ 34083.824] (II) Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file. | but it found nothing to do, so it exited.
By default, it tries to run three xterms and an analogue clock all wrapped in twm but gentoo does not install them unless you ask it to.
As a normal user, startx needs some root help to startup.
The root help can be provided by elogind, systemd or building Xorg with USE=suid, so it runs as root anyway.
elogind needs to be started by adding it to the default runlevel.
startx can be configured to run other things by creating a ~/.xinitrc file that tells it what to do. _________________ Regards,

thank you mr Neddy,
elogind is added to the run level default but still the same http://dpaste.com/ESZQ5MWD9
the content of the normal user's .xinitrc file is here http://dpaste.com/7AJN6J3PX it was with gnome-session instead but it didn't work i found this thread and installed dwm https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8213108.html and only dwm worked so many apps did not work at all. i was using gdm in display manager config file but it doesn't work, i changed to sddm and it worked however no desktop environment worked whether using xorg or wayland _________________ i would like to thank everyone that contributed to the gentoo project in any means |
