Most addictive:
1. Civ games (freeciv included), always saying to myself; just one more round.....ok, just one more round....
Seriously, I was almost late for my wedding due to this game!
2. CS/CS:S -- until I discovered CS, I thought TF and TFC were addictive, hah!
Best Games:
1. System Shock2 / Deus Ex / Thief --> same dev, awesome games with original ideas (stealth, non-kill options). Great gameplay, stories and environments.
2. SW: KotOR; too bad there is little replay value.
3. NWN series; realization of many years of waiting for this game, utilizing a PnP (Pencil-n-paper) D&D game finally getting implemented correctly on the computer. Too bad there wasn't 3D and multiplayer (permanent world) implemented from the developers (Bioware).
4. Daggerfall / Morrowind --> open-ended games with freedom to explore, develop character as one wished make magic items, and buy houses/boats.
5. Quake and QuakeGL derivatives/mods (Team Fortress) --> my first FPS and online multiplayer games. Put my college degree at risk.
6. BG/BGII series --> Always trying to find everything in the game. I prefer turn-based games to RTS.
7. Diablo/DiabloII series --> sigh, how many hours were wasted here? Too many.
Luckily, I can play most of these in Linux. I never played too much Nethack (maybe 20 minutes), but I can see it being a potential addiction for me. _________________ Abit NF7-S (Realtek RTL8201, RTL8801b, ALC650, SiL3112a)

The Best FPS:
Enemy Territory Elite (True Combat)
emerge games-fps/enemy-territory-truecombat
bad, it doesn't work on PPC or any not-x86 processor, closed source code
The Best Strategy:
Freeciv 2.0.1+ (with SDL)
Code: | wget ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/latest/freeciv-svn-Apr-24.tar.bz2
tar xjvf freeciv-svn-Apr-24.tar.bz2
cd freeciv-svn-Apr-24
configure --enable-client=sdl
make
make install
you need also Deluxe theme, just go to freeciv.org |
The Best Dungeon:
Nethack
emerge nethack # you can also install 2D/3D GUI for it, just "esearch -S nethack"
The Best RPG:
emerge mednafen # or any other SNES or GBA emulator
then, download and play Zelda rom
The Best Arcade:
go to http://www.romreactor.net and search for Bucky O_Hare rom for Nintendo |

im looking for a captivating multiplayer RPG. Planeshift doesn't seem to cut it, due to the fact that i can't get any sound on that game and i got tired of running around doing nothing hehehe.
Im gonna give BurningMUD a shot. |

Burning mud is ok, but I am way more addicted to imperian. The fact that its considered a huge crime to log out just because your cornered and the open endedness of doing anything that fits your characters profile have made it soo much more fun for me. You truly are only limited by your imagination, I remember i spent a good week robing people before they convinced the town guard to come after me. |

Saw Elite and TTD mentioned in this thread - to which I reply Oolite and OpenTTD, respectively. TTD players may want to check out Simutrans too. _________________ Want Free games?

On the fence between WOW and Counter Strike (doesnt matter which version they are all addictive as crack) I say this as my co-worker behind me has a WOW window open on his second monitor. |

games-action/bzflag
Very addictive and lightweight game, but due to my stupid net I usually get high lag kicks
games-simulation/flightgear
maybe this might not be addictive to all of you who are not intrested in planes..
games-fps/enemy-territory-truecombat
Very addictive too, but lack of active servers
yes, americasarmy is also addictive _________________ "Being defeated is often a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent" - Marilyn vos Savant

Blood - there's no other way to put this - Blood is the ownerer... it's better than Nuke'em, Quake, Doom, Hexen (although this comes in at a close second place) - it made my eyes sore and my fingers numb for hours on end - you name it. Get this game - it's old and silly now, but for the sound bytes alone, you will come back for more every time. Blood pwnz, always... period. Nothing has ever come close for me. WARNING: Blood 2 was the POLAR OPPOSITE! TOTAL SUCKAGE!
Ultima Online - and I still insist, that it has it's shining moments even now.
Thief: The Dark Project - it's not about fighting - it's about stealing the goodies and... well.. making off like a bandit (tm).
Like this game even NEEDS and introduction... and the ROM is of course, quite abundant...
The most BAD-ASS cabinet game ever made to date... ROMs are out there, but nothing will ever compare to this cabinet game...
Samurai Shodown... grab your friggin' katana and prepare to die in a glorious blaze of whacked out special effects with a fairly cool story line that reads like anything you've seen in a Jon Woo flick.. hours and hours, thousands of quarters later.. the Neo-Geo system was a sweet arcade system that housed SS - was cool because you could load up your saved games on a memory card.
Fallout - in my opinion, completely owns Diablo. Don't get me wrong - Diablo is one hell of a game (nyuk nyuk).. but pales compared to the awesome that is Fallout. In Diablo, you choose your typical mythical fighting 'trees' of skills, like two-handed combat, etc and then run around clicking and running like a rabid fruit bat with a firecracker up your ass. In Fallout, you pick Talents, Skills, and Perks - one of which is, 'People around you die in horrible ways', another is 'You have amazing luck', and yet another might be 'Proficiency with one-handed weapons'. If you want to see how bad Fallout ownz Diablo, then have a looksie here...
Going back even further, The Bilestoad DEFINITELY owns. This is one of the first major top-down games that glued my face to the monitor whilst I chopped my best friend's avatar's arms and legs off. That's right - you heard me - this is probably the induction of the 'gore' game at it's infancy. You could sort of 'aim' your weapon, and hack off your buddies avatar's arm or leg which of course, would cause them to hemmorhage profusely and suddenly fight like they've been knocked up with a vicodan and morphine shamrock shake. Great game.
And last on my list, a genre that has come and gone the way of the dinosaur (me), ANYTHING THAT REQUIRES A JOYSTICK! w00t!
Video Games were meant to keep us from shooting each other in real life - so put away your trash talkin' smart-mouth gangsta-wannabe bullshit and let's celebrate... someone hit me up on IM so I can kick your ass in ut2004 or CS or whatever. ;-D
In real life, I will most likely die a very tragic and slow death.. the death of a bitter and crusty old nerd... buried deep in my apartment basement in some old crappy warehouse... Guinness in one hand, Dual-action Logitech Joystick in the other.. with smoke.. coming out my eyes and ears... the LCD the only light of day I have seen for years...
xoxo
~b1f30
P.S. I have buttloads of games to add to this list, but these are the ones that stick out the most... _________________ H T T P : / / W W W . B I N A R Y F R E E D O M . I N F O / |
