Currently I'm dual booting Arch and PCLinuxOS.
I like most things about Arch, especially the speed.
I use PCLinux as a backup and Admin their advanced users forum so I kinda need it around.
I'm going to resize my partition table when I get the time and give Gentoo around 20 gigs or so.
I have 120 gigs to play with.
I'll have a / and /home partition for Gentoo.

I have the 120 gig sata hd
Nvidia Geforce 7300 vid card
intel pent 4 processor
dhcp w/ linksys router [user name and password unnecessary]
wired generic mouse
wireless generic keyboard
Acer wide screen monitor

I plan on doing the install via shell [ I already know the live-cd probs as I also gave it a spin about a week after it was first released]

If someone would be so kind as to give me the name of the nvidia driver they use for the vid card as well as what the Gentoo entry in the grub/menu.lst looks like it would be very much appreciated.
Any other info anyone feels I may find useful would also be much appreciated.

One other thing,,,,
I use KDE, Swiftfox, pidgin and Frostwire.
Has anyone noticed any problems with any of these packages?

the nvidia drivers are called "nvidia-drivers", which you can emerge off the command line after you get installed. (unless you want to use the oss ones, those are "xf86-video-nv")

cheers

The closed-source binary driver from NVIDIA is x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers, the open source driver is x11-drivers/xf86-video-nv. It is explained here:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/nvidia-guide.xml

Have a look at the gentoo handbook: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=10#doc_chap2

Swiftfox is not officially included, but you can of course install it by downloading it from the swiftfox website. There's also some ebuild for it in the forums, search for swiftfox. Concerning KDE: KDE 3.5 is stable, KDE 4 is not yet ready for every day's use. If you however want to test KDE 4, have a look at http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde4.xml.
