Latest update over the weekend has caused this error message after the machine ran for a few days when ever I try to run any X11 GUI program from the command line:

Quote:
Maximum number of clients reachedMaximum number of clients reachedMaximum number of clients reachedMaximum number of clients reachedMaximum number of clients reachedMaximum number of clients reached[vo/sdl] SDL_Init failed
Maximum number of clients reachedError opening/initializing the selected video_out (--vo) device.

Here's a better error message from mythtv
Quote:
Maximum number of clients reachedMaximum number of clients reachedqt.qpa.xcb: could not connect to display :0
qt.qpa.plugin: Could not load the Qt platform plugin "xcb" in "" even though it was found.
This application failed to start because no Qt platform plugin could be initialized. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

Available platform plugins are: minimal, offscreen, vnc, wayland-egl, wayland, wayland-xcomposite-egl, wayland-xcomposite-glx, xcb.

Aborted

I found a thread on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/u0095w/dealing_with_an_issue_that_often_happens_after/i44jnp0/

And the work around is to kill kded5.

Has anyone seen this? Is there a better fix available?

I hate to unmask all of kde just to get to the latest version...

No, and I can't repro it despite regularly leaving my desktop up and logged in for weeks at a time... But then I'm running bleeding-edge from the kde overlay.

Is this your bug report? If not, there's your "anyone".

This is a real thing. The bug steve_v found is related.

It still happens after a reboot and eventually I have to killall kded5 and the problem is fixed and kded5 never launches again, so I mean what is it actually doing?
