I'm not sure of the process here. After a long stretch without development, orage was given its "last rites" and removed from portage (bug closed here). In fact the project is still alive: version 4.16.0 builds successfully and works with my GTK3 XFCE desktop, panel plugin and all.
Prior to this release someone had already filed a bug (here) against the first one, pointing out that the project was not, in fact, dead: that bug's status is listed as "unconfirmed". Should I comment on that bug, or does the closed status of the first bug mean it's now necessary to initiate some new process to get orage back into portage? It seems like it could be more straightforward when it was already in, was only removed for being dead, and yet is alive and well. |

I suggest you communicate by email with the xfce maintainer. See:

Xfce maintainers are already CC'd to that bug anyway, so no need to write to them directly. They are CC'd only for information as the former maintainers, there is no reason for them to automatically add it back. Anyone else could, if interested. The ebuild is going to look different since GTK3 porting anyway.
Don't read too much into bug status. |

OK, I'll leave it alone: my own ebuild works for me but is just careless nonsense (from memory I just deleted a GTK2-related dependency check that was causing the old ebuild to fail with the new tarball), so I was going to tidy it up and send it with the email...but I really don't know enough about portage or the build implications of the GTK2 -> GTK3 shift to be doing this properly, so would probably just be wasting the maintainers' time as well as my own by attempting it. I'll keep using my own build happily and will assume that folk who know what they're doing will get orage back into portage at some point...and meanwhile that anyone who really wants it will just build it for themselves, whether it's in portage or not. |
