Hello Gentoo Community
I have installed Profile 8 desktop/plasma on a Tuxedo Polaris. Finally established a WiFi connection with KDE DesktopManager today. The wifi connects with my home network with 100% signal strength, yet every 40 seconds the WiFi password dialog - KDE Daemon appears asking for the password again. Without response the connetion disconnects.

Here is boot log info from /var/log/rc.log

Hi
Welcome to Gentoo forums.

You are using NetworkManager.
So please disable wpa_supplicant.
Also you seem to be using selinux.
Plz set it to permissive.
Or even better to DISABLED if you want a satisfying Desktop experience.
I see in your output
Code:

* Starting iwd ...
* Starting wpa_supplicant ...
* Starting NetworkManager ...

To many actors competing for the same resource.
Plz build NM with USE="-iwd"
You now seem to have both iwd and wpa_supplicant.
Maybe creating a conflict.
There IS a conflict indeed.
Code:

nl80211: kernel reports: Match already configured

Just rebuild NM and disable wpa_supplicant.
If NM needs it it will start it itself.
ALSO disable net.wlan0
Code:

rc-update delete net.wlan0 default

You cant have both netifrc and NM running.

Thank you.
After cleaning up, removed iwd, and rewriting some config files I now have wireless connection using dhcpcd which pulls in wpa_supplicant.
So many choices, so much yet to learn.

I can see I need to take detailed notes on all the actions I take to solve the problems I encounter. Thank you again for all your help. I know I will benefit from Forum Moderators and community in my future learning Gentoo.

It looks like the OP started wpa_supplicant (/etc/init.d/wpa_supplicant start or enabled it via etc-update) when networkmanager is also started, which should not be the case. Networkmanager starts wpa_supplicant on its own. If one runs both as a daemon and started from networkmanager, it would confuse the hardware, causing the symptoms seen.

Thanks for bringing this up, now I have to go check if I did the same mistake on one of my machines that had the same issue (alas, the issue went away when I swapped wifi cards so I don't think it's the same issue.)
