|
|
So this seems trivial, but actually using Wayland is rather difficult because of this issue - with current Plasma themes, you can't read interface elements or pretty much anything, as all of them have a (semi) transparent background, including Plasma panels and widgets and stuff. So it gets pretty annoying.
Previously I had an "old" i7 2nd gen workstation with integrated Intel graphics, and it ran without issues whatsoever - blur worked; Wayland was my daily driver there. But on April was able to upgrade to a i5 8th gen workstation, also with Intel integrated graphics (lspci says it's an Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 630 (Desktop), I set it up as "intel i965" in make.conf). Reinstalled Gentoo on it but... blur does not work in Wayland - only on the lock screen.
In X, it works with no adjustments whatsoever. This only happens in Wayland and I can't even figure out how to troubleshoot this nor have got any help about it.
Tried creating a throwaway user to test this - blur also wasn't working on there. Got a Fedora (34?) KDE live usb, one of those who uses Wayland right out-of-the-box, and things are blurred there. So all of that leds me to think there's something like screwed configuration on my part, but I don't know where else to look.
The Wayland SSDM logs don't seem to say anything helpful, but will post them if needed. Nor the output of 'qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation'.
Any help on this would be awesome.
[Edit]
Turns out I'm a huge idiot.
After reading from head to toe every wiki page about Intel (Gentoo, Arch...), checking (and trying with) every USE flag and CARDS vars, checking every parameter in my Kernel config, even installing the gentoo-kernel-bin, brute-force copying a kernel from Fedora, ranting about it everywhere...
I just had to install plasma-meta.
I don't even know why I didn't had it installed in the first place, maybe I imagined it pulled all @kdegraphics, @kdeedu, @kdegames and all stuff like it did before and just pulled plasma-desktop. But as that warning message says, plasma-desktop will leave users "figure out missing features on their own". Fuck me sideways.
Now I have to figure out why when the screen turns off automatically (powerdevil) it won't turn on again when moving the mouse, pressing something on the keyboard or doing Code: | kscreendoctor --dpms on | with kdeconnect. Thunderbolt things, I guess.
Thank you all who tried to help me in this.

Hmm. You seem to have a 'Coffee Lake' CPU. Right? According to this page, VIDEO_CARDS="intel i965 iris" should be used.
Please post the output of
Code: | lspci -nn | grep -i VGA |
You may want to use wgetpaste for the output of 'dmesg'. |

Oh yes, you're right. There's iris in there too, but it seems I deleted it from this post when writing it.

I'm not using that AMD card, but last time I tried, it was the same thing - no blur.

googling "plasma transparency 5.23.3" returns some results, have you investigated them. (I'm not a kde user) _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

The thing is that this is not happening specifically since 5.23, nor it seems about transparency (which works, i.e. I use transparency for inactive windows) but with blur (say in plasma panels or widgets, or konsole background) |

I don't know if it's related, but there's an error message in 'dmesg':
Code: | [ 1.757847] Loading firmware: i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin
[ 1.757864] i915 0000:00:02.0: Direct firmware load for i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin failed with error -2
[ 1.757868] i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] Failed to load DMC firmware i915/kbl_dmc_ver1_04.bin. Disabling runtime power management. |
There's a USE flag "sna". Don't you use the modesetting driver? |

Thank you so much for the reply,
Didn't noticed the firmware missing file error message. I just rebuilt the kernel with the path of it and rebooted, the error message is gone but still no blur.
Also not sure how I ended with that use flag there (maybe from the previous workstation?) but just disabled it, nothing installed had it enabled anyway. |
