OK, I installed 3ddesktop and I have a small problem
When I run 3deskd the colors and the fonts are badly affected/changed. For example I see the icons but I do not see the text next to the icons. So when I click on K the only thing I see are the icons.
I have radeon 7500, I am using 2.6.5. kernel and dri is loaded.

Thank you.

I have never had anything like that, sorry.

In answer to your earlier question; 3ddeskd used to quietly consume all the memory until the system froze.

Is there any way we can get this to be made a sticky thread?

One of the greatest things about linux is being able to customize your desktop to your tastes (and so you can show off to other people). I think it would be great to have this list at the top of the DE Forum.

It is a theme for Openbox3 that matches with any of the gentoo backgrounds and the gtk+ color of the perlpanel.

Another nice program. Is it in portage? I was not able to find it..

An ebuild for skippy is currently available on the bugzilla

You guys are fast... but is is fairly easy to compile and install it. Only the executable needs to be installed and thus :!:

Now, back to the problem with 3ddesktop. I want to add that the problem that I described above will disappear as soon as I update the background (I have the slide show enabled). Could it be because of the video card, or is it because the program consumes a lot of memory or something else?

Don't think it is a memory issue, I would try another window manager see what happens.

Bloody hell. The problem with Gentoo is that I try to fix a certain problem and then I find a thread like this and suddenly everything's skippied, 3dfm'ed, vfs'ed, and in all other ways eye-candied to death.

Darn you all ;-)

Great thread. Wish I had something to contribute, but I really don't.

FYI There is this exact same thread on JustLinux:
http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=116380

That gives me an idea...it would be cool if some forum software allowed two or more forums to share some threads and/or boards. :)

Neat eye-candy.....

But I would warn your users about 3D Desktop... I used to like them, but now it uses quite a bit of processing power in the background now.

Doesn't expocity only work with metacity?

Skippy should work with most window managers. I've used it with KWin.

Skippy-XD is cool too. Once XOrg comes out with XDamage and XComposite and so on (supposed to be august 25), you will be able to use Skippy-XD which uses those extentions to render the actual windows directly. In other words, it won't need to take a bunch of screenshots, everything will be live.

I'm sure expocity can do the same thing, but I don't know if such a thing is implemented yet (since the only servers that currently do XDamage are Keith Packard's XServers).

I try to ignore python and not encourage him to think he have some worth in my systems

quick question, does rss-glx (really slick screensavers) work with xscreensaver? When I pretend emerge it it wants to pull in kde-base/kde-env-3-r3 as well. Specifically I am interested in using the skyrocket one.

Yep rss-glx adds extra hacks to xscreensaver. Not sure about the KDE dependency.

Ohhooh, I even know that :)

OK, I'm not on Linux right now (work) but it's something like:
In the menu, go to configuration, advanced and then click on session preferences. In the last tab, add a new entry wich starts skippy.
A soon as I'm home I'm gonna try skippy. Looks really nice.
