What exactly is the problem? Can you post the build.log?

the package can't be emerged in openrc because of hard systemd dependencies, from what i could check and try.
it builds perfectly ok in systemd, but fails in openrc systems.
i don't know if i should fill a bug report
thanks for any tip

If I see ebuild dependencies
Code:
RDEPEND="
        dev-libs/glib:*
        gnome-base/gnome-common
        >=dev-libs/libgudev-237
        systemd? (
                !sys-apps/openrc
                sys-apps/systemd
        )
        virtual/udev
"

seems possible to emerge with openrc if systemd use flag is disabled.
Can you post emerge output?

For the record, this package builds with OpenRC if the ebuild defines systemdsystemunitdir for the Meson build system.

For details, see: meson.build lines 37-41.

Why it's configured that way and whether or not the package actually works after it builds are different questions. :wink:

thanks for the info, i've read that it could be emerged in openrc, but every time i tried it it failed, even with -systemd use flag, so i've tried to build it under systemd (rebuild the system, changed profile, etc.) and it worked ok. Maybe will try again when I have some time to switch again, but for the moment I'ill keep it this way

Your ebuild builds but is problematic.

First, iio-sensor-proxy 3.1 (and greater) does have a license.

Second, you are missing dependencies.

Third, setting systemdsystemunitdir via meson_use is pretty much never correct. With OpenRC it results in:

Code:
-Dsystemdsystemunitdir=false

which installs systemd service files to:

Code:
>>> /usr/false/
>>> /usr/false/iio-sensor-proxy.service

and triggers a QA Notice:

Code:
 * QA Notice: The ebuild is installing to one or more unexpected paths:
 *
 *   /usr/false
 *
 * Please fix the ebuild to use correct FHS/Gentoo policy paths.

For details, see: meson.build Line 7 (which tells you what type of option it is).

A more accurate ebuild of iio-sensor-proxy can be found here.
