Hi,

Is there any way to customize fonts in Plasma, as well as in Kubuntu?
I tried different settings in eselect fontconfig, but still it doesn't get the same effect as in Kubuntu.
Perhaps I need to install some additional packages or do some additional actions?
Is there an official gentoo documentation with recommendations on the best font settings for Plasma?

The my screen resolution is 1920x1080. 93 ppi (pixel per inch)

Code:

eselect fontconfig list

It's much more difficult than you think.

You can define font properties for some applications with "eselect fontconfig".

IIRC, there's a control panel in Plasma/KDE that you can use to define font settings for some other applications (KDE, Plasma).

Then there's qtconfig. You can use it to define font settings for another class of applications (Qt based programs).

Of course, there's another class of applications which can be configured with a GNOME font control panel or dconf (GTK, Gnome & friends).

To make things even worse, some of the programs mentioned above not only change settings for the group of programs they were made for, but also for other applications. For example, the KDE control panel also tries to change font settings for GTK based programs. Sometimes it works - sometimes not. Needless to say, that KDE 4 or GTK 2 based application use different font configuration files than KDE 5 or GTK 3 based applications. It's a mess!

It's very difficult to get fonts right under Linux.

The only advice I can give to you: look at all the methods that exist to define font settings and try to find out which method changes font rendering for which applications. Then try to get the font settings you like. Don't be surprised if font settings change in a few weeks or months after an update. If that happens, you'll have to re-adjust your font settings.

Start by grabbing system-wide and local user's fonts.conf and font-related local.conf and use those in Gentoo. Make sure you have all enabled fonts installed.

But as mike155 said, there's a different configuration for KDE, Qt, GTK, Gnome...
