I'm trying to get my Kyocer printer installed using the guide in Gentoo's documentation. There are no open source drivers available however the manufacturer has RPMs available for other distributions. I grabbed a PPD out of one of these RPMs and was able to get the printer to communicate with CUPS. I know it's connected because I'm able to print the printer's default print page. Upon trying to send anything to the printer from my Gentoo install it fails to print. Initially gave an error about not finding filters. I copied the filters from the RPM but then I started getting Python errors because it uses Python 2. I tried updating the file but I just don't know enough about Python so I hit a stopping point. Now I've installed Python2.7 slotted however there are some dependencies I'm lacking and the accept_python variable for these 2 dependencies doesn't seem to allow for python2.7. I tried a couple ways to force it based off Gentoos documentation but I can't seem to get it to work. I'm open to any way to get this printer working. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Instead of polluting your system, you should be able to find a generic color PCL6 driver (and maybe postscript) to drive this printer. From specifications:
Code: | PRINTER SPECIFICATIONS
Standard Controller: ARM Cortex-A9 Dual Core 1.2GHz
PDLs / Emulations: PRESCRIBE, PCL6 (PCL-XL/PCL-5c), KPDL3
(AES, PDF Direct Print Support), XPS, OpenXPS (TIFF/JPEG Direct
Print Support) |

You should be able to select a driverless option when you configure the printer. |

ShadowMetis,
Use the method in this post to provide some information from cups.
One of the logs is going to be too big for a post, so be sure to put it onto a pastebin. _________________ Regards,

Was able to get everything working (including duplex & color printing) using one of the generic drivers in the portage package net-print/gutenprint. Thanks for the help everyone! |
