Drive is an WDC WD5000AAKS-00UU3A0, 8.83 years running time (almost never off).
This was two days ago. It's been fine since. Passes self-tests, no SMART errors. Fully backed up nightly.
Next time I shut it off, I will re-seat the cables.

figueroa,
That says its a communication problem.
It could be on the motherboard, on the drive, or a failed SATA data cable. _________________ Regards,

Thanks for the reply. A couple of hours ago, I shut it down, reseated the cables on both drives, started it up again. So far so good. If it recurs, I'll switch SATA cables and keep watching. _________________ Andy Figueroa
