Vitualbox. After powering off the machine everything is broken. Trying to complie with emerge command says "command not found" or "directory doesnt exist". cant mount anything after that, going to a text file for example nano -w /mnt/gentoo/etc/portage/make.conf, it has no text at all. I can save the machine and everythings fine but trying to power off thats what happens. What can help me? When attempting ssh it gives me warning and says "The server host key does not match the one PuTTY has cached in the registry" that wasnt before i guess thats because of powering off the vb again with saving machine there wasnt any warnings. I needed to check some error come up in the settings of vb so i turned it off without knowing that. Because when i was installing for example arch linux on a hardware not on vb i dont remember anything of that.

Changed title from 'Vitualbox. After powering off the machine everything is brok' to 'Virtualbox. After powering off everything is broken.' to help with searches and finding and more.Chiitoo

Hi
Quote:

for example nano -w /mnt/gentoo/etc/portage/make.conf, it has no text at all.

So you are still building your system.
You have to properly mount the partitions and the bind-mounts afresh.
Plz be more specific about the errors you are getting.

Just to make it clear, are you running Gentoo in virtualbox? Or Running virtualbox on Gentoo?
If it's the first, what is the host OS?

So am redoing this and currently on command eselect profile set 1 unDEV. and its 59 of 92 like 2 hours still.Idk maybe if its because i have 1 core and 2 g ram. actually it was quicker priviously.

gentoouser212,

When you power up the guest, you will be in whatever your boot media was.
Your install is safe and sound, as far as it went but it is not attached to /mnt/gentoo until you mount it again.
Until you do that /mnt/gentoo is empty.

Boot your guest.
Redo all the mounts
Do the chroot steps.
You are back in your Gentoo as if you had never left.

Do not make partitions
Do not make filesystems.

You didn't make at least one partition like /dev/sda1? Where did you make the filesystem?
