|
|
i am new to gentoo and after following the handbook i got to the chroot. There i had to emerge -avUDN@world so after I ran that it didn't do anything it just gave me the error Code: | the following installed packages are masked -sys-apps/opentmpfiles-0.2 |
so i searched for posts about this on the gentoo forums and i found something about this being because i have it set to -systemd so it wants to use opentmpfiles but that is masked for a security concern.
i think this is something very obvious that i don't understand but if should pass the output to pastebin of something tell me how to do so |

Welcome to Gentoo
Plz
Try
Code: |
emerge -Cav opentmpfiles
emerge -1av sys-apps/systemd-tmpfiles
|
The above package was masked by Gentoo Developers because of security flaws.
This was not a grave error more like a warning.
It was masked after your having emerged it.
Plz see
Code: |
eselect news read <systemd-tmpfiles replaces deprecated opentmpfiles>
|

it doesn't let me install the systemd one and it gives the same error for binutils and glibc which i didn't see before. maybe because of -systemd in the use flags |

Expanding on alamahant's request: while in some cases you can get away with abbreviated summaries of error messages, you will often be asked to provide the output from a failed command. If you provide that output in your opening post, you can save yourself the round trip of having someone ask for that output, then you post it, then someone can actually examine your problem. |

Ok your output seems seriously messed.
Is this a new install?
Which tarball did you use?
Plz use latest.
What is the output of
Also
It is
not
You have a mess of openrc and systemd packages conflicting with each other.
Was the stage3-tarball openrc or systemd?
Did you add USE="systemd" to an openrc install? _________________

hmm ok when i got the tarball i used a mirror from xserver romania. maybe i should reinstall with a different mirror so which mirror is most recent for the tarball?
are you sure my system is old?
by the way i will be able to run that when i get home. I want to know if this is a simpler problem like an outdated tarball
i went for hardened tarball btw |

Pretty sure for example:
- your portage version 2.3.99 current is 3.0.20
- your glibc version 2.30-r8 current is 2.33-r1
- ....
