|
|
Hello, what is the purpose of login timeout (when logging in as local user on local VT)? If it is to enhance security, then exactly how is it supposed to achieve that? And is it necessary for timer to start counting even before user is presented with password prompt? Why 60 seconds by default? Why not something that would better align with linux kernel memory management? Perhaps 60 minutes? Where can I change this setting? Thanks.
Please excuse touch of sarcasm in my post, I have just spent 15 minutes trying to regain control of my computer. |

It's more historical than anything at this point, other than it also resets login / getty to sane states after so many seconds.
If it takes more than 60 seconds to login, you really screwed the pooch on your memory management... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Computer or human?
My password is eleven digit (no not a dictionary word or phrase) and I never forget it, although I have mistyped it. |

LOL could be either...
I'd hope keyboard users can type 10 WPM at least... At one minute, hunting and pecking at 1 character per second should be plenty of time to get a userid and password in unless you need some external device to find your password or the computer is swap storming so badly that it thought your keystrokes were one minute apart because it didn't have a chance to collect keystrokes at the right time... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD
