|
|
I've just bought a new Samsung XPRESS C480FW multifunction printer, and connected it to my router through ethernet with its own specific IP.
With CUPS it proved easy to configure and connect to this printer, just had to download its PPD file.
However, I can't get it to be recognised as a scanner.
In make.conf I have:
Code: | SANE_BACKENDS="net xerox_mfp" |
In /etc/sane.d/xerox_mfp.conf I added the scanner network IP (here substituted with X and Y):
First line of dll.conf is:
and the rest of the file contains all the other options, including xerox_mfp
At one point I did get the scanner to be seen but the program crashed immediately.
There are installation scripts for a proprietary driver of this scanner, but I would rather see if I can get it to work as a sane scanner availale through the network.
Any suggestions? _________________ We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring

You may have to use the samsung linux driver, it looks like sane doesn't completely support that particular model. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Yes, in the end I did so. Everything seems to work perfectly. _________________ We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring

I'm resurrecting this thread because it came up in my google searching while trying to setup my Samsung 2880 scanner. For network scanning I had terrible luck with the Samsung unified drivers, but found a great alternative that supports A LOT of other scanners. Sane-Airscan is a backend that uses the "driverless" dynamic discovery protocols that many new and relatively old printers support. With this I had great luck setting-up my scanner via WSD. Make sure you emerge sane-backends with zeroconfig use flag to pull avahi. I installed via git clone but 2xsaiko's overlay has an ebuild which I'll probably switch to. |
