I have tried forever to figure out why WebRTC video chats don't work in Firefox on Gentoo when they do work with other browsers. Video is transmitted both ways, but I can neither hear others nor can they hear me. Can somebody point me to specific USE flags I need to set/unset or configuration I need to change? Here's my setup:

Code:

I'll start off by saying I have no idea what the problems could be and I have no experience with webrtc.
That said, you could try enabling sndio and/or jack (or even pulseaudio) and recompile. I'm not familiar with them but know they're sound-related. lol.
Firefox takes forever to compile, so first have you checked the web developer tools (F12) in firefox? See if there are any errors posted there that might be requesting an unavailable library.

try

USE=pulseaudio emerge -1av firefox

I'm also not firm with Firefox, but Seamonkey (mozilla-clone) did not work with alsa anymore.
If this is not working take a look with pipewire

In the configuration where WebRTC does not work for Firefox, does any audio work in Firefox? Can it play sound with videos?

Yes, I can watch YouTube videos just fine, for example, or play audio files embedded in websites.

Will reply to the other suggestions later (possibly after some recompiling :lol:).

Here's related messages from the developer console after unsuccessfully trying to use Google Meet:
"WebRTC: onaddstream is deprecated! Use peerConnection.ontrack instead."
And several instances of "Uncaught (in promise): (a lot of gibberish, followed by:) Owner asynchronously disposed."

Deprecation doesn't seem likely to cause this behaviour. The uncaught error is beyond my knowledge. Anyone?
Anyway, I'll try recompiling with pulseaudio enabled and report back.

I have the same problem as you describe, only when using jitsi meet.
Firefox can play audio, with video chat i the video works both ways, but audio doesn't work.

In my case I use alsa for audio, and alsa in firefox is unsupported (basically: If it works, be happy, if it doesn't, you're lost). Since i hate pulseaudio my idea is to try jack and let jack use alsa. This is just an idea, i don't know if it actually works because i didn't try it yet.
