How should I mask >sys-kernel/gentoo-sources:5.4 SOLVED

I would like to mask >sys-kernel/gentoo-sources:5.4. I can do that with:

# cat /etc/portage/package.mask/kernel 
>sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-5.4.2000

but that looks silly. What's the proper way of achieving this?

You can't use signs with slot if you want mask all kernels greater than 5,4 use >=sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-5.5 entry
