When I run startx as a normal user, dwm comes up but I can't open any programs.
Any help appreciated :D

Your title says startx is not working, but your body says startx works and your window manager does not. Does the X server exit when you try to open a program? What happens when dwm fails to open a program? What error messages are logged?

When I run startx as a normal user dwm comes up but I can't open any programs like the terminal, but if I open startx as root I can open programs.

new error now: xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted)
