|
|
So basically I decided to get started with Gentoo and I want a very minimal window manager,
I got introduced to BerryWM which does not have an official Gentoo Package, but can be built from source.
Will it still work or does the unavailability of a package mean that it wont work on Gentoo?
Why did I not try this myself: Waiting for my SSD to arrive to install Gentoo on it.
Thank you!

Welcome to gentoo forum.
No a package not in tree don't mean that it wont work on Gentoo simply that no developer uses it and created this ebuild.
Better than build from sources is create your own ebuild. _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

Yes, two ways to go.
1. Write your own ebuild and put it in a local overlay.
2. Build from source and install into /usr/local/bin and /usr/local/lib or /usr/local/lib64
#1 is harder but more rewarding.
OK, there's also 1a, find an overlay with it on the web.
Got a link? I might be interested. |

https://berrywm.org
https://github.com/JLErvin/berry
(comes with a berryc to send commands to windows and manipulate as needed, so can be made into about anything with some scripting).
I briefly tried it a while back, but I needed something more standard complying than it currently is so I didn't really mess more with it.
Making an ebuild should be easy if someone wants a go at it. |

Thank you guys for your answers!
I'm probably going to create my own ebuild so others can benefit from it and so I learn more about Gentoo & ebuilds.
Have a nice day!
Edit: Thank you so much for this <3 |
