If you wanted to go this route, there are at least two other techniques you can use to temporarily ignore WebKitGTK.

You can dig through this thread and your previous threads to find them.

dantrell,
Any idea where/how I can post this log?

I can't do wgetpaste as it is exceeds K.

I can probably try to cut'n'paste by little portions to the pastebin.com.

I'm going to try:

Code:

--exclude webkit-gtk

in my emerge command in the meantime.

Thank you.

Any suggestions on how to share the build log?

Also,

Code:

IgorReinCloud /var/lib/layman/dantrell-gnome/eclass # PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7 python3_8" emerge --ask --deep --newuse --update --verbose --with-bdeps=y --keep-going --exclude webkit-gtk @world

  warnings.warn(_("%s is deprecated, use %s instead") %

 * IMPORTANT: 30 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news read to view new items.

 * Last emerge --sync was 31d 22h 25m 11s ago.

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy ">=dev-libs/icu-3.8.1-r1:0/60.2=".
(dependency required by "net-libs/webkit-gtk-2.22.2::dantrell-gnome" [installed])
(dependency required by "net-libs/gnome-online-accounts-3.24.5::dantrell-gnome-3-24" [installed])
(dependency required by "gnome-base/gnome-control-center-3.24.4::dantrell-gnome-3-24[gnome-online-accounts]" [installed])

It looks like webkit is a showstopper right now...

Thank you.

Take the necessary security cautions on the out-of-date machine and SSH in from another machine.

However, I already suggested a fix.

Dig deeper through the threads, you can make the exclusion stricter or use the other technique.

dantrell,
Here is the configure output for the WebKitGTK: https://bpa.st/EZDA.

There are couple of warnings there

Anything jumps out?

Now about building with the different version of GCC - is 7 and 8/9 are ABI compatible?
And all I need is to install gcc, select it and re-run emerge webkit-gtk, right?

Thank you.

Nope, because what I want to compare is the full build log.

Let's just see how your targeted rebuild goes.

ONEEYEMAN wrote:

This doesn't matter unless you plan to immediately use WebKitGTK afterwards.

Once you are up-to-date, WebKitGTK (and other packages) will be rebuilt again when you do your GCC upgrade.

ONEEYEMAN wrote:

That's one way to do it.

Just remember to immediately switch back to GCC 7 when you are done with WebKitGTK.

dantrell,
I will try to gzip the log send it thru the {pastebin}.

The log itself is 34M.

I will hold for rebuilding with the later gcc until you check the log. Don't want to pollute the system if I don't have to. ;-)

Unless you will tell me to try it...

Thank you.

dantrell,
I tried to send the gz file.

Please check if you can get the file from here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/e5d1agddaru3wun/webkit.build.log.gz/file
Or get the file from here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/we9hzmih62l1rno/webkit.build.log/file

Both links worked.

I still suspect GCC 7 to be problematic with this version of WebKitGTK.

If you have time, build WebKitGTK against both GCC 8 & 9.

if you don't have time, just build WebKitGTK against GCC 9.

dantrell,
It looks like you might be correct.
WebKitGTK needs C++17, and its possible GCC7 didn't implement everything there.
I have GCC10 here as stable and I don't see any of the warnings I previously saw.
Hopefully it will finish compilation...
I also saw that during configure step it did recognize the compiler...

Thank you.

P.S.: I am going thru the post-install messages now.

Hopefully after that pytgon update will just be a very simple task. ;-)

This location is deprecated, it should not be used anymore by new software.
Appdata/Metainfo files should be installed into /usr/share/metainfo directory.

You can answer that by checking where it was installed from.

ONEEYEMAN wrote:

More like not-in-progress.

QA warnings are really for ebuild maintainers.

I fix them locally as I become aware of them but they won't go live until I stack up to a significant change.

ONEEYEMAN wrote:

For @preserved-rebuild to run, @world must be up-to-date.

Ruby 2.3 is no longer in the main tree but it's being pulled in so @world is not up-to-date.

Take care of that and then rebuild the packages (in the output you shared) that complained about Ruby.

dantrell,
This is weird.
I will re-run my "emerge @world" command and see if something is a miss. But it finished successfully.

Stay tuned... ;-)

Thank you.

Since emerge can hide output (temporarily or not) for one reason or another it doesn't always tell the full story.

It's up to you to know the state of your systems (especially if they are running Gentoo).

I will re-run that command when I get home.

I hope I get some extra packages to merge.

I would have told you that was probably pointless since I believed you when you initially said world was updated.

ONEEYEMAN wrote:
As said - an emerge world finished.

That fact that emerge finished "successfully" doesn't change what I said.

You still have to give @preserved-rebuild a helping hand like I outlined.

P.S. You can delete duplicate posts.

dantrell,
What about this one:

skipped: (sys-libs/libosinfo-1.9.0:0/0::dantrell-gnome, ebuild scheduled for merge) (see unsatisfied dependency below)

Without re-running, I wouldn't see this.

Thank you.
