I'd like to use the vanilla sources with a few custom patches, such as grsecurity, htb3 and possibly others. Also, I'd like my .config to be preserved and reused between kernel upgrades.

Can I produce something to automate this using an ebuild? Would I need to replace the vanilla-sources ebuild or can I extend it to run my own ebuild as part of the ebuild (which would, once created, apply the necessary patches)? Or maybe the other way around, let my own ebuild include the kernel?

And what if a new package is out (kernel or otherwise), can I reuse an existing ebuild script to install the updated package? This would effectively let me do source upgrades.. and I *really* want that :)
