|
|
Hey, this is not nag or anything similar, just something weird (or different) from routine and that I have not seen any explanation anywhere, like Phoronix. It has to do with sudden change on the Kernel upgrade frequency.
Used to be that we got a minor release every week or so for a long time, but now they seem to arrive every two days. We recently also had a weird -r1 release, which is uncommon. Noticed the same trend on my uni laptop, which uses Arch, so not Gentoo specific.
Did they change the update frequency for a given reason? Maybe they found some weird bugs and are patching them? |

It depends on which kernel you want to install.
In a stable gentoo the kernel used is the LTS and update frequency is much slower.
The -rX versions are gentoo revision, nothing to do with official kernel release.
I don't think anything has changed lately in the release roadmap of kernels _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

I am watching the content (described in the headlines) of the patches summarized in every minor version. IMHO it looks like there were more "revert" patches than in the past. Not a good sign for quality ... |

The same question was asked on LKML a couple of weeks ago as a response to one of Greg's patchsets.
Greg's answer was, IIRC: no specific reason, be happy that we publish so many updates. |
