Building ffmpeg with AviSynth+ support

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Building ffmpeg with AviSynth+ support

Post by Linx_ » Sat Dec 12, 2020 2:28 am

So one of the main reasons I've kept Windows around all these years is the quality of video tools like AVISynth, but now that ffmpeg has official support for AVISynth+ I'm that much closer to being able to ditch it finally. Since 4.3, ffmpeg has switched from avxsynth (which is equivalent to 15-year-old avs 2.5) to avisynth+, but I don't see a use flag for it in Gentoo yet. All I see is the old USE=avs flag that uses avxsynth. If I use it now will it just enable Avisynth+ instead because the docs are behind, or is there something different I have to do now?

FYI, I've manually installed the avs+ headers and successfully built the ffmpeg source code from git. It just has to be compiled with ./configure --enable-avisynth --enable-gpl to make it work. I just didn't install it because I don't want any file collisions with portage.

Don't know what you're looking at but there's no USE=avs on current ffmpeg.

As a workaround you can specify extra ffmpeg options through package.env by setting EXTRA_FFMPEG_CONF="--enable-avisynth"

But you could try opening a bug with explanations to maybe get a USE added on the long term.

Not something I've used myself, so that's all I can say.

That did the trick. Thanks!

I'll open a bug report as you suggest so we can get proper support.
