This is a Virtual Machine, globally ~amd64, cpuinfo says Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 v3 @ 2.60GHz

The machine is running for years with
Code:
CFLAGS="-march=corei7 -mtune=native -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS} -fvisibility-inlines-hidden"

because the VM was required to be compatible with a corei7 Hypervisor. I don't need this anymore and could switch to -march=native.

Anyway, the last update broke my system, postinst was failing and emerge was broken by "Illegal instruction":
Code:
 *  (488/489) Generating zu_ZA.ISO-8859-1 ...                                                                                                                                                                  [ ok ]
 *  (486/489) Generating zh_TW.EUC-TW ...                                                                                                                                                                      [ ok ]
 *  (484/489) Generating zh_SG.UTF-8 ...                                                                                                                                                                       [ ok ]

I rolled the glibc-2.31-r6.tbz2 back by tar, emerge is working again. I updated all the rest of emerge -auNDtv world.
I tried building glibc with different CFLAGS:
Code:
-march=native -mtune=native
-march=generic

I also tried without -march -mtune (which should effectively be generic?).
After every change I also did a emerge -1 libtool gcc binutils before the emerge glibc. It's failing and breaking the system every time.

I could mask the ~amd64 glibc and just stay with the stable package. Emerging sys-libs/glibc-2.31-r6 is rejected due to downgrade restrictions, but should actually be safe as after the rollback I have the old 2.31 glibc installed while Portage doesn't know and has the 2.32 registered eventhough the postinst was failing.
How would I force portage to do the downgrade?

What can I do at all?
