had a problem updating iproute2 on another system
i am building, someone suggested emerging the newer
linux-headers. well that fixed my iproute2 problem.

so on this machine i just went ahead and emerged the
new headers - walked away from the system. upon returning
i saw a message about recompiling my systems libc (?)

the message went by real fast then the system did some more
compiling.

does gentoo automatically recompile the libc after a linux-header update?

You would want to recompile glibc sometime, it won't do it automaticaly. it will just warn you about it.
It wouldn't hurt to also recompile gcc.

when you say recompile
do you mean recompile the existing version
or emerge to the new version?

thanks

Mainly the existing version to get any changes in the new headers. but upgrades are good if there is a newer version.
