Hello,

I am having an issue where a program I am trying to run under Wine fails with "unhandled exception" despite using packaged Wine binaries from someone who has the program working.

I am trying to run the program Tina-TI, however upon launch the program immediately crashes with "wine: Unhandled exception 0x0eedfade". At first I thought this was an issue related to a specific version (wine-staging:5.9), but I noticed that I got the error no matter which Wine version I tried. I have also compiled the MinGW toolchain to build Wine with but that has not helped. Along with this, I tried dozens of combinations of CFLAGS/USE flags to no avail. I once managed to get the program working with a custom prepatched wine-staging:5.6 ebuild (repo: thegreatmcpain), but I cannot manage to get that version working again.

As mentioned, I managed to get a binary package produced through quickpkg that someone confirmed works with Tina-TI on their system (~amd64, same as mine). For some reason this package still results in Tina crashing on startup. I thought about reporting this issue to WineHQ but I believe it is a problem with the libraries on my system rather than Wine itself as it works for another person.

I use GentooLTO for all my packages which I thought may be the issue, but so does the person who produced the binary package. I am unsure as to what I should be changing/looking at in order to fix this, so any help will be highly appreciated.

The MinGW (i686-w64-mingw32/x86_64-w64-mingw32) toolchain is compiled with the "graphite" USE flag as well as "--threads=posix". Building Wine with GCC has the program fail all the same.

wine-staging USE flags:
Code:
X alsa cups faudio fontconfig gcrypt gecko gstreamer jpeg lcms ldap mono mp3 ncurses nls opengl perl png pulseaudio realtime run-exes ssl staging threads truetype udev udisks unwind vaapi vulkan xcomposite xinerama xml

One thing that comes to mind, is the Wine prefix. You probably have already tried with a clean one, and made sure it matches the settings of the user who had it running?

I'm thinking of settings such as the Windows version being reported to the application, and did it work out-of-the-box for the other user, in a clean prefix?.

Looking around the internet, '0x0eedfade' might be specific to Delphi, though I'm not entirely sure.

Since there doesn't seem to be a free download (without registration) available, I couldn't try this one out myself.

Hi Chiitoo,

You're correct in assuming fresh wine prefixes don't change the outcome (both pure 32 and 64-bit). Same with reported Windows version. The other user left default settings for the provided wine binaries. Fresh 64-bit prefix Windows 7, yet I can't successfully reproduce it regardless of combination.

I've noticed the Delphi connection however I haven't come across anything referring to specific libraries needed or wine errors unfortunately.

Would you have any what I should be looking at in my system to find a solution? I'm stilling assuming it's purely a me issue as it works for someone else. I've tried rebuilding GCC/MinGW/Wine/glibc with multiple USE/CFLAG changes as a longshot, but still no luck.

Thanks.

Forgot to mention that the log is no longer available, though I think I still have it here.

Considering both of you use '~amd64' and LTO (which I'm very unfamiliar with), only thing I can think of right now is CFLAGS, which you seem to have experimented with already. We do 'strip-flags' in our Wine ebuilds unless USE="custom-cflags", so with regards to Wine itself, these may not have made a difference, but I guess having built a library with them could still have an effect.

You do seem to have quite a bit set globally:

Code:
CFLAGS="-march=haswell -O3 -fgraphite-identity -floop-nest-optimize -fdevirtualize-at-ltrans -fipa-pta -fno-semantic-interposition -flto=8 -fuse-linker-plugin -pipe"

Versus what I'm used to:

Code:
CFLAGS="-march=znver1 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -mindirect-branch=thunk"

Like I mentioned though, due to 'strip-flags' you could look into the Wine build-log (or 'emerge --info wine-staging') to see which flags were actually used, but if we think about all the other installed packages, how do these flags compare with the other user's set-up?

I can't say with any certainty that any of your flags can be a cause for this issue, but I've seen even just the '-O3' be an issue for /some/ things.

Also, the WineHQ does have forums too, in case you still don't quite feel like filing a bug (though I agree this /may/ be a more Gentoo-specific thing than a Wine-thing). :]
