Dear All,

I am running amd64 stable on an FX 8350 box.

On logging in I am getting an error message about
Code:
eth0 not existing
or something like that.

I was using a
Code:
genkernel kernel
.

Noticing that that other kaveri box I gave does not produce the eth0 grumble I remembered tthat I had a proper manually cnfigured kernel running on that machine I decided to upgrage to the latest kernel on the FX8350 machine and manually configure the nvidia card using the nouveau option in the kernel and set the Realtek 8189 driver on correctly in the new kernel and compiled and installed it.

I am now running the
Code:
5.6.12 kernel
.

I checked the dmesg file and founf the following entry in it:

Code:

When trying to run
Code:
distccd
n this machine I also get the eth0 not found grumble.

Suggestions welcome on this.

You could check in /var/log/rc.log what's calling for such eth0.

Sorry. Forgot to mention you have to enable rc logging in the /etc/rc.conf file.
/etc/rc.conf:
...
# rc_logger launches a logging daemon to log the entire rc process to
# /var/log/rc.log
# NOTE: Linux systems require the devfs service to be started before
# logging can take place and as such cannot log the sysinit runlevel.
rc_logger="YES"

Many thanks for help and advice.

I ran the touch command suggested on the
Code:
eudev
page and it has cured the problem.

Many thanks

MF
