Hi Guys,
I have installed openbox following this
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Openbox

However I just cant create any menus both using menumaker or openbox menu.
When i use openbox-menu I get:
Code:

File applications.menu doesn't exist. Can't create menu

and for menumaker
Code:

mmaker -vf Openbox3
* scanning
  desktop... 54 apps found
  legacy... 6 apps found
  debian... 52 apps found
* merging... 38 coincidings detected
* generating
  no terminal emulator specified; will use the default
no suitable terminal emulator found

I run openbox --reconfigure
BUT NO UPDATED MENUS.
Just the default little stupid menu that is almost useless.
I followed the instructions exactly as shown.
I prefer if i dint go deep into rc.xml writing right now...
I just want a fresh functional menu.
Maybe later if i go deeper in openbox then ok..
Kindly advice me pleeeaseeeee..
:) :)

Try lxde-base/lxpanel. Its menu is auto-generated from the applications' .desktop files

Thanks.
This worked.
But with regards to openbox menu utilities they are ALL a little crippled.
They just dont work out of the box,probably missing dependencies and give the feeling of crippled...
Very disappointing experience this whole openbox foray.
This is my humble personal opinion, assuredly based on my ignorance...
Still not fun....

Get an XML editor and edit ~/.config/openbox/menu.xml ... or just use any text editor.

obmenu-generator works fine if one installs
Code:

dev-perl/Gtk2

You need to have this entry in menu.xml
Code:

<openbox_menu xmlns="http://openbox.org/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://openbox.org/">
    <menu id="root-menu" label="obmenu-generator" execute="/usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/obmenu-generator -i" />
</openbox_menu>

Then it just works fine.............
:D
