I am trying to configure bluetooth on my laptop.

I have configured udev & usb.

I have enabled all suggested kernel modules, and enabled the suggested use flags.

i have installed bluez & bluedevil.

When i get to the hciconfig -a to detect my bluetooth controller, it says:

Code:
Can't open HCI socket.: Address family not supported by protocol

When i enter bluetoothctl it just says waiting to connect to bluetooth, and never actually does anything at all.

This is the output lspci -k :
Code:
Network controller: Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168NGW [Stone Peak] (rev 10)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Dual Band Wireless-AC 3168NGW [Stone Peak]
        Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi
        Kernel modules: iwlwifi

Any advice on how to resolve this?

Hello quay.

Did you follow this guide: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Bluetooth
And do you use the correct build kernel, like rebooted with the correct one?

Hi Banana,

Yes. I followed that guide, and used the correct kernel, have enabled all the suggested kernel settings ( RFCOMM (CONFIG_RFCOMM), HIDP (CONFIG_BT_HIDP), HCI USB (CONFIG_BT_HCIBTUSB) HCI UART (CONFIG_BT_HCIUART) CONFIG_UHID, and did udev & usb configuration.

It still isn't detecting my controller, I know bluetooth works because I had it working fine on this same laptop with Ubuntu.

Are you 100% sure you're booting the right kernel after having enabled those options? The only way to know for sure (as far as I know) is to grep the /proc/config.gz file.

Apparently I wasn't 100% sure. I reloaded the kernel again and rebooted and it is working now. thanks for your help fturco & banana!
