Good day Everyone,

I need an advice on keyboard layout switcher for fluxbox, the problem is that I have to switch the layout very often and I'm looking for a switcher which remembers layout per window or tab.
Something similar to a Switching Policy in KDE: Global, Desktop, Application, Window. Maybe someone already uses this and can tell what it's name is.

Thanks.

maybe a mix of https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/fluxbox-change-languages-keyboard-layout-393468/ and https://www.systutorials.com/docs/linux/man/5-fluxbox-keys/

See https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout_switching#lxpanel.27s_keyboard_layout_handler. Using lxpanel instead of fbpanel

You may add all symbols you need to just one keyboard layout and never switch again. I have very basic US keyboard and I can do μ or ° or € or whatever I need with it, I hold down the "Windows key" to switch.

Banana,
I think, it is a good idea with key bindings. I have read the links and now I know that I can write a script where I get the active window and toggle layout if needed, and the script can be called this way
Quote:
OnWindow Mouse1 :MacroCmd {Focus} {ExecCommand ~/bin/test.sh}
Thanks!

charles17,
lxpanel works like a charm, also I found it has useful applets like battery monitor so I do not need to develop another one. I will stay with lxpanel.
Thanks!

Jaglover,
I'm doing in the same way as you when I need to enter Ukrainian characters which are absent in default ru layout (і, ї, є, ґ, stressed vowels, some punctuation marks) :) . Previously I had 3 layouts: us, ru and ua, - and it was a bit stressful to press button combination again and again until the proper flag appeared near the clock - I had to be focused so as not to miss the needed layout :D . Now I use two layouts: us and mixed ru+ua (ua layout is activated via right Ctrl button). It is a very useful thing which makes life much easier.
Thanks!
