No such file or directory.

OK, It's getting late and my mind is a bit rattled, but I thought I was doing something I'd done many times before. After a new build with a new hard drive, I installed X and got it running with startx. Then I installed xdm and tried using that, but after I logged in it would just reset. So then I thought I would use Slim, which I've used many times before. I set up all the usual items in slim.conf and made sure that /etc/conf.d/xdm had the DISPLAYMANAGER set to slim.

But, when I try to launch from xdm I get the following in the slim.log file:

Code:
slim: waiting for X server to begin accepting connections.
slim: open_session: Unable to open session: Failed to connect to socket /run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory.

And it's true, there is no /run/dbus directory, but why would it be looking there?

As soon as D-Bus gets started, it creates a socket. The default location is '/run/dbus/system_bus_socket'. Other processes use that socket to communicate with D-Bus and with each other.

It's there on my machine:
Code:
# ls -la /run/dbus/system_bus_socket
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Mar  1 14:33 /run/dbus/system_bus_socket

That socket doesn't exist on your machine? Is D-Bus up and running? Maybe you forgot to enable that service?
