I have a dual 85-mhz supersparc-2 Sparcstation 20, on which I just recently started experimenting with Gentoo. I tried the recently released sparc 1.4-rc5 livecd, and unfortunately processes would lock-up and become unkillable when I booted with gentoo-smp. I am currently building my system from stage 1 with a uniprocessor kernel, and it appears to be working fine.
I noticed in the -rc4 announcement that SMP supersparc support was suppost to be working... is that not the case? Has anyone else gotten recent 2.4 kernels working on SMP sparcstations? |

I have a dual 75Mhz SparcStation 20 happily running a smp kernel...
I started from stage3 though...

well, for some reason the last version of the 2.4.22-sparc kernel didn't work in SMP mode for me either... it would exhibit the same behaviour, with processes locking up and becoming unkillable.
However, the latest 2.4.23-sparc kernel works great on my machine in SMP mode! Its been running for a couple of hours now doing some emerges, and its still going strong. I don't know why my sparcstation 20 didn't work and yours did with the 2.4.22 kernel... oh well I have it working now.. here's my /proc/cpuinfo for the curious:
