Hi,
My PC is connected to both a VGA monitor and an HDMI TV.
The VGA monitor displays fine, but despite detecting the TV display and resolution I get "Connecting..." for a few seconds and then "no signal" on the TV screen (when in multi-display mode, of course).
Manually forcing the resolution to 720p at 60Hz (or any other combination for that matter) does not seem to change a thing. The TV only has one HDMI port, and I'm trying to determine what's wrong with it.
How can I go about debugging this?

Do you know that the HDMI cable is good?
Getting the EDID data only needs two wires. A correct image needs another 10 wires.
What happens if you only connect the HDMI display?
What does /var/log/Xorg.0.log say? _________________ Regards,

I've used the HDMI cable with an HDMI monitor, and it worked fine.
I also used another HDMI cable just for kicks, but it still fails.

In /etc/X11/xorg.conf or in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/* hsync and vsync have been given. They override the EDID data.
Its possible to give hsync and vsync such that there are no usable modes for Xorg, so you don't get an image.
Its also possible that Xorg is doing what you asked with hsync and vsync but the display cannot use the image because either hsync or vsync is out of range.

So I booted the Gentoo liveDVD to avoid misleading config issues.
I logged into the Plasma KDE environment, and set both displays as "unified outputs" (in any case, whether or not I do this, even with separate outputs, the end result is the same).
The VGA monitor works fine, the TV doesn't (no signal).
