On the Metal: Jeff Rothschild
Episode 1
Quote:
On this episode of On the Metal, we interview Jeff Rothschild. Jeff has had a fascinating journey solving all sorts of fun problems at various levels of the stack. He is most widely known as being a co-founder of Veritas Software and the first VP of Engineering at Facebook, but his story does not start there. Join us as we hear Jeff’s stories from his impressive technical endeavors including disassembling MS-DOS, editing machine code in an octal editor, trolling coworkers in error messages, the origin story of ftruncate, and more.
Hosts are formerly of Joyent (at least Bryan Cantrill, I presume one or more of the others). The podcast is hosted on their new company's website,

Also the podcast teaser if you care to hear that.

Well, talking about FIP...

Heard this one yesterday (or maybe a few days ago...) on this same radio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKU0sBerPYI
Which reminded me of my teen age... used to listen to the version of la Mano Negra. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tRwJCyPSpw
Thought this was the original, but the very first reference seems to be even older: see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBkZ4WCpo7s

As a bonus, if you had fun listening to Max Raabe, you may also like this song too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYr9kIyambE

Neil Diamond - Soolaimon

Tap Root Manuscript wrote:
Tap Root Manuscript is the sixth studio album by Neil Diamond, released in 1970. It was one of the most experimental albums he ever recorded, featuring prominent African sounds and instruments. The album ended up being a commercial success, with a string of top 40 hits. This album predates many Western artists' interest in world music by more than a decade, from Peter Gabriel's 1980's solo albums, to My Life in the Bush of Ghosts (David Byrne with Brian Eno) in 1981, to the Graceland album recorded by Paul Simon in 1986. It was one of the most novel experimental recording projects of its time, and the Uni label initially was not sure whether it would be commercially viable. It turned out to be one of Diamond's most successful albums up to that point in his career, including one of his three #1 hits in his career, "Cracklin' Rosie".

You have the rare ability to summon ancient memories from my early childhood. Neil Diamond's voice is so burned in my memory, along with his lyrics.

After listening to Soolaimon, I had to listen to Cracklin' Rosie & Song Sung Blue.

~~~ And now for something completely different ~~~
In honor of the WuFlu. Ebola-chan theme song
