Hi all.

I've just upgraded my Xfce installation. I notice the pointer now stutters over windows, i.e. mouse pointer movements are way less fluid than with Xfce 4.12. Indeed CPU usage goes up to 20% on my Core i5-3230M when the pointer hovers over windows. When I move the pointer over the desktop, CPU usage goes about 2-5%.

Has anyone noticed that, too?

I upgraded my Atom netbook to Xfce 4.14, and didn't notice much of any slowdown... The only difference I noticed so far is hybrid sleep as a new option on logout/shutdown... I use the touchpad when I can but don't recall any difference with a mouse, and with its tiny low resolution screen I should have run across the window edges frequently.

Were there any other packages upgraded? Is 3d acceleration still working? Which driver?

I also do not run compositing in Xfce on the Atom, wonder if that changes things if it were disabled?

Well, it's not really that my machine slows down — I really didn't notice anything about it being slower. It's only about the mouse pointer, which moves get jerky (I guess that's the term) when hovering windows with controls, such as window settings, audio settings and whatnot. As soon as I move the pointer over the desktop, then its moves are fluid like before.

As I've worked with event-driven programming before, I'd say — intuitively — it's as if mouse hover events took too long to be processed whenever there are controls or widgets in a window below the pointer. That's just some educated guessing.

I don't remember which packages were upgraded (there were about 400 of them), just several drivers. 3D acceleration still seems to work, indeed. I'm using nouveau with mesa.

Ah... looks like the mouse pointer doesn't stutter/get jerky when compositing is disabled. Do we have a clue? ;-)
