hi there,

i just set up a new gentoo install and it is working fine as always except for one strange thing i did encounter

i log in with slim and xfce environment appears, user and password work fine. after a while the system logs the user out for inactivity. after that i can not relogin, the password simply isnt accepted...

has someone a suggestion to fix this, or could someone point me in a direction to fix this?

help is very much appreciated :)

is it the screensaver that's causing problems?

Are you using some pam chicanery?

emerge --info data?

problem still persists. i tried all various keyword combinations :

elogind locking opengl pam -consolekit

elogind locking opengl pam consolekit

-elogind locking opengl -pam -consolekit

and so forth

here is my emerge --info output

Code:
# emerge --info

I was implying that you were using -pam with some packages and +pam with others, or perhaps have -pam in general. I haven't had any issues when I have +pam for everything -- make sure you --newuse --deep your emerge @world to ensure all packages are picking up the USE flags and the same ones are used for all packages?

Normally one would use elogind or consolekit exclusively - one or the other but not both. Again --newuse --deep @world to ensure everything is in sync.

both packages : xfce4-screensaver and xscreensaver dont authenticate after locking the screen

i did what you suggested, i did put pam and consolekit in make.conf as well as -elogind

then i ran : "emerge -uvaDN" world which should do the same as "emerge --newuse --deep @ world". just to be certain i tried "emerge --newuse --deep @ world" and it reported that nothing has to be done. still the same, the screensaver doesnt log in after locking the screen :(

On one machine I have USE=-locking on xfce-extra/xfce4-screensaver ... perhaps something sneaked in there?

So many weird interactions possible here, xscreensaver has its own lock/timeout functions but xfce4 knows when it should lock too...

Okay I don't know if I ran into the same problem or not on one of my machines. It/xscreensaver appears to lock the screen and not display a prompt when the user comes back after timeout and well, screen is black and can't re-authenticate...
