IMHO she'll be re-elected.

There's only one man running, Maxime "Mad Max" Bernier. He won't win because Canada. So the race is between Canukistani Jeb (the "conservative") and the part time ski instructor and substitute drama teacher, Ms. Justin "blackface" Trudeau.

I did not vote. I would not want to be accused of meddling in a foreign election.

So it's a minority government led by the Liberals. Ms Trudeau will probably retain her control.

The NDP lost 14 of 15 seats in Quebec, with Bloc Quebecois taking over. However, Bloc Quebecois is not what it once was. Founded as a party to reject all legislation unless it benefited Quebec, the founder stepped down and the guy who took over was a former communist. So Soviet Canukistan stays Soviet Canukistan.

The conservatives picking Scheer over Bernier (by 1%) was a massive mistake, as Scheer is Canadian Jeb. The Quebec people will not vote for an Anglo, and Scheer is an Anglo. Had they picked Bernier, the conservatives probably would have won. Choosing Jeb (Scheer), Bernier split off and... that's all she wrote.

My condolences for my Canadian friends.

{EDIT} Alberta is 99% conservative now, NDP has one spec on a solid blue field.

So now the question is, how long before the Conservatives, Bloc, and NDP call for new elections? All 3 of those parties think they can do better, and none like Ms Trudeau. They'd have the votes to call for a new round. So, 6 months?

I think Liberal-NDP coalition.

The Cons were idiots this time around. Too similar to the Libs. All parties were falling over themselves on how best to pump up the housing market, and the Cons were by far the worst offenders in this respect. Keep in mind, like the US, conservative doesn't actually mean fiscally conservative.

Agree, Max would have made the Cons a real alternative. But he's in deep water now - he lost his seat.

Indeed. It all goes back to the Cons picking Scheer. Huge mistake.

PPC were silent on housing, which in some sense is good, but in other ways is bad. Saying the govt "will stay out of it" is disingenuous. The govt is in it in the biggest way with artificially low rates, and not enforcing its own laws re money laundering and tax evasion (that's a massive problem in Canada).

I know you americans love to hate the IRS, but the IRS is basically the only agency in the world that seems to enforce the tax law in any country. The IRS is one of the forces making Canada actually pay attention to its own money laundering problem. The other is the new found political will.

Tax evasion is just the criminal act of being mugged less than everyone else. So no problem there, imo.

Libs in the US are happy that the Lib party in Canada remains in control, not realizing the irony that the conservatives won the popular vote and they seem to have no problem with the outcome.

After reading through some news, I see the same scenario from here like in Canada.

The ones that lost, still got to rule. (Socialdemokraterna).

If you look at Canada and the EU you see a pattern of corruption beyond the US of A.
Mostly because socialism makes a foundation of nice people that then gets used and taken advantage of.
A buildingblock to communism, meaning fraudulence, corruption, fascism, death to intellectuals.
This is what I think you are saying is OK.

What's going on in Canada is that taxation is preferentially enforced. If you have high wages or stock capital gains you can't avoid tax. It's nearly impossible. Anything to do with real estate and the govt doesn't enforce anything to keep the market high. Rental income, capital gains on real estate sales/condo assignments, airbnb rentals etc etc etc, none of that taxation is enforced.

So, it's not a matter of "being mugged less". It's meddling in the free market if the govt preferentially enforces taxation on some gains and not others.
