When I run "startx" as a normal user , i receive this error:
Code:
hostname look up failure

but when i ran "startx" as root, it worked.

this is .xinitrc.
Code:
exec dbus-launch startkde

this is .xprofile

Code:

eval "$(dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session)"
export XMODIFIERS="@im=fcitx"
export QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx
export GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx

thanks

  1. What exactly happens when you run 'startx' as a normal user? Do you see anything? Or do you only get the message 'hostname look up failure'? Do you have to press Ctrl-C to get the command prompt back?

  2. Please run the command below as a normal user and post the output. It will show us the groups you're in:
    Code:
    id

  3. Please post the output of
    Code:
    emerge --info
