Why is not possible to insert a picture in a message?
Is there ever a plan to add such a feature?

Pictures seem fine here. :twisted: Personally, I like that there are no off-site images. People are bad enough already about posting screenshots of text output when they should be posting the text output directly.

Since registration is open to the public, if we had inline image hotlinking support, I would block cross-domain images to avoid surprises. It's better that people post links to the images, and let readers choose whether to follow them.

Plus, once a picture is posted everyone will abuse the "reply with quote" feature and it will be posted all over again. Unnecessary quoting is bad enough even without pictures.

Actually, this is often (at least for me) because 'quote' button is right there in the message you are reading, while for 'reply' you need to scroll to the end of the page. Compounded by the fact
that by the time you reach the end of page, you do not see the message you are replying to in front of you.

Perhaps your quoting isn't unnecessary then. What I meant was postings like this.
