How to get a list of explicitly installed packages ?

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

Try

Code: Select all

$ file /var/lib/portage/world
My Gentoo installation notes.
Please learn how to denote units correctly!

What Anon-E-moose meant was

Code: Select all

cat /var/lib/portage/world
What Jaglover showed is a command that will reveal whether the file exists (it should) and what its contents is like (should be "ASCII text").

Sorry, I assumed he would either less or cat it. I thought everyone knew that world was a file.

Yes,

Code: Select all

man portage
should definitely be on one's reading list at some point.
