What this probably means, by the way, is that (a) you have conflicting values in /etc/portage/make.conf vs. /etc/portage/repos.conf/gentoo.conf and (b) app-shells/gentoo-bashcomp handles the repository location override priority slightly differently as compared to Portage.

Thank you! I was missing this file on my new install. I tried everything but I couldn't get the tab completion function to work, it was this missing file that caused it.
